CODE CHICKEN CORE NOT WORKING PRO
OMV can provide a NFS location which you can configure any Amcrest camera that uses the web gui and the View Pro app to use. As for the NVR I'm using OpenMediaVault and I've seen information on an ARM version for that but I couldn't give you any details. Snapshots can also be saved with an HA service that calls the cameras API behind the scenes. The setup on the HA side is a few lines of yaml per camera and I'm using the RTSP feed if that's an option for your cameras. I want to be able to view the cameras in 10 second intervals or live on HA (working), motion events as automation triggers through HA (working), the ability to move PTZ cameras with an HA dashboard card (working but with a 5-10 second delay), and part/full time NVR recordings based on location or motion (working).

I have one of the older model PTZ 1080P Amcrest cameras that I've been testing out for almost the same scenario.

I'm open to hosting some NVR software on the ESXi box, but not really wanting to stand up an entirely new VM, so linux support is required. NVR software or hardware? Would it be enough to just use the cameras features for recording storage and the integrations for the HA component? The cameras themselves have motion detection and NAS storage options over NFS built-in. I see the newer stream interface in HA, and I imagine the two combined would take care of the HA end, but not the recording or motion detection. I see that HA has Amcrest integration support, but the documentation is a bit outdated and references older models and streams more than the newer models. Fine for NFS, but not fine for running applications on. I have a several TB Raid-5 NAS available for storage, but its an older ARM model that pegs CPU on writes. The hypervisor itself is just about maxed out VM-wise, but the usage is fairly low. My available equipment is as follows: HA running on a Debian ESXi VM. I also want Home Assistant integration that can use motion detection to send notifications as well as view the streams through HA. I would like the recordings to be saved for a few days, motion detected recordings are ideal, but i'd consider just saving everything for 2 or 3 days. I have a few goals in mind for them, but can't find good information as to which route to take. I have 2 new Amcrest IP8M-2496 cameras hooked up and ready to start being useful.
I typically don't make posts like this, but after hours of research, I'm more confused than when I started.
